  • There are many reasons to work with a coach: gaining accountability, a sounding board, and a personal cheerleader, utilizing the hard-earned wisdom and lessons learned from someone else’s years of study and experience, and—this is a very important one—having someone to recognize and tell you when you need to slow down or take and extra rest day (or two) for your physical and/or mental health.

Coach Willie’s philosophy is deeply holistic; sometimes the most successful coaching clients are the ones who don’t actually complete the initial stated goal—somewhere along the way it became clear that the biggest win was NOT doing the thing, but rather changing the objective, or shifting their focus to another passion or area of their lives…

A good coach wants you to flourish and succeed, but knows that doesn’t always look like you’d expect from the outset!

  • Willie McBride studied training and coaching at the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI) Portland and has been a coach since graduating for over 13 years.  He has coached folks of all ages and paces to reach a wide variety of goals ranging from lifestyle changes & foundational fitness to backpacking, mountaineering, and other outdoor objectives; from road running and triathlons to ultra marathons 50k to 200+ miles.

One of his favorite roles as a coach is helping people find what objectives really move them.  There are lots of passionate people who want to dream big but they don’t always know what to actually do or how to get started.  Let’s spread out the maps, open the guidebooks and the laptop and get scheming!

Working with Coach Willie McBride has been nothing short of life-changing. Over the years, he has guided me through countless races, including my first 100k, and supported me in achieving goals I never imagined were possible. His coaching goes far beyond training plans; he creates a space where growth, resilience, and confidence can take root. Whether I was facing physical challenges or mental blocks, Willie always met me with insight, patience, and unwavering support. He knew when to push, when to hold space, and how to help me step outside of my comfort zone, not just as a runner, but as a person.

His dedication to his own journey is equally inspiring. He lives what he teaches, constantly pursuing his own big goals both locally and internationally, and showing up as a true pillar in the trail running and adventure community. That authenticity fuels his coaching in a powerful way.

Thanks to his mentorship, I now feel inspired and confident enough to travel out of state and even out of the country to continue exploring my passion for running and adventure. I truly would not have met these milestones without his support, guidance, and belief in me. He is not only an incredible coach, but a genuinely kind, grounded, and motivating human being. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Willie and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking to expand what they believe is possible for themselves - on the trails and beyond.

Working with Willie has been engaging and transformative.  Willie cares about overall well-being and his joy for the outdoors is contagious. Whether we’re training on a trail, warming up under the trees, or just soaking in the fresh air, Willie’s love for nature has reignited my own. It’s reminded me that movement doesn’t have to be confined to a gym—it can be an adventure, a meditation, and a celebration of life.

One of the most powerful aspects of this journey has been the emphasis on mental toughness. Willie consistently challenges me to push past self-imposed limits, helping me build resilience, confidence, and clarity. Whether it’s through breathwork or simply learning to stay focused under pressure, I’ve developed tools that extend far beyond the gym.  I’ve learned to embrace discomfort and celebrate progress in all its forms.
